Privacy Policy

K8 (“kate”) is operated by Transcom (Design Technology Ltd t/a Transcom), Concorde House, Margaret Street, Brighton BN2 1TS. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.

Your messages never reach us. K8 does all of its scrambling and unscrambling inside your own browser. Your message text and your Pass Key are never sent to our servers — we can't read them, we don't store them, and we can't recover them.

1What we process

Your message and Pass Key — nothing. They are used only on your device, in your browser, and are never transmitted to us or anyone else. We keep no copy.
Standard web logs. When your browser loads the page, our server briefly records ordinary technical details (your IP address and the time of the request) to keep the service secure and running. This is not used to identify or profile you.

2How the scrambling works

K8 uses your browser's built-in Web Crypto engine to perform AES-256 encryption and decryption locally. There is no “send” step — the scrambled text you see is produced on your own machine. Because of this, we have no technical ability to access the contents of anything you scramble, or to recover a message if you lose the Pass Key.

3Cookies & tracking

K8 sets no advertising or analytics cookies and does not track you. Any storage is limited to what's strictly needed to run the page.

4Third parties

The page loads web fonts from Google Fonts and the DoubleCheck trust badge/script from our own service at doublecheck.uk. Neither receives your message content or Pass Key. No message data is ever shared with any third party.

5Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have rights over any personal data we hold (such as access to, or erasure of, log data). To exercise them, or with any question, contact info@transcom.co.uk. You may also complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
